The Wallace Winkie Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Belle Plaine, Iowa, has established a Lifelong Learner Hall of Fame to celebrate and honor Iowans - past and present - who have made a lasting impact on the quality of life in Iowa through their contributions to lifelong learning.
A family foundation led by former Iowa Commission on Aging member Bev Winkie, the Wallace Winkie Foundation has partnered with the Heritage Area Agency on Aging, AARP Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa's Lifelong University to recognize individuals and organizations that have made enduring contributions to lifelong learning and, in so doing, have set lasting examples for others and improved the quality of life in their community, state or nation. Nominations may come from family members, friends or admirers and will be accepted through Aug. 30, 2017.
In addition to recognizing the Hall of Fame inductees at a ceremony in October, the Wallace Winkie Foundation will also make a one-time donation ($500 minimum) in each winner's name to the educational institution or organization of his/her choice.
