Supportive Services
Supportive services are key to helping older adults maintain their long-term independence. With the help of access services (e.g., transportation, case management, information and assistance), in-home services (e.g., personal care, chore and homemaker assistance) and community services (e.g., mental health services, adult day care), individuals can prevent early institutionalization and instead continue living at home or in their community of choice.
In Iowa, under Title III B of the Older Americans Act (Section 321), the Department is responsible for ensuring all older adults, adults with disabilities, veterans and caregivers have access to supportive services, while the Area Agencies on Aging work at the local level to develop a person-centered plan of care and coordinate home and community-based services that will assist the individual in achieving his/her goals for long-term independence and full participation in the community.
